Despite some rough weather in Portugal and Spain, where our baby leaves were overwintering, Steve’s Leaves are on the shelf! We have taken the first step toward bringing something new, exciting and long overdue to the bagged salads market: salads with a personality! Salads inspired, grown, washed and packed by a team committed to make a real difference to the market. By a team with values that we want to instill into our product.
Sure all Steve’s Leaves taste and look great. That’s a given.
But you’ll see all our bags carry the Nature Friendly Farming logo. That means they are grown on farms and by people who care for the environment and the wildlife we share it with.
You’ll also see Steve’s Leaves are washed only in spring water. No chlorine, no chemicals, no additives, just carefully nurtured leaves washed in flowing spring water, shaken dry and bagged. Leaving the water to flow from our washlines to create some very special miniature chalk streams that are home to some wonderful wild brown trout (who certainly are not on the menu!).
But some things we cannot fit on the pack – such as our philosophy of “Grow with the Sun”. When autumn approaches Steve’s Leaves move off to the sunnier climes of Portugal. And when it gets a bit chilly there, in the dead of winter, the more delicate of them can be found basking in the sun of our farm in Southern Spain! We believe that leaves grown in natural sunlight makes them taste better and more nutritious – and science agrees with us on this.

It has been an exciting start to 2012 with news that Steve’s Leaves is now available from Tesco. This together with selected Sainsbury’s stores, Waitrose, online at Ocado and all good foodie outlets makes it easier for all of you to find us. We are also in Olive, Delicious and Jamie Oliver magazines suggesting ideas on how to beat the winter blues with healthy eating tasty recipes!
